Frequently Asked Questions

Can I donate on-line?

Yes! Giving to United Way is easier than ever.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes.  Click HERE to contribute using your VISA, Master Card, and Discover credit card donations.

If  I designate a specific agency, do they really get the money?

Yes.  As long as you donate over $25.00, you can designate where you wish the money to go and it is given to that agency.

I thought my donations were supposed to stay in Columbia County.  Why do you support agencies that aren't in Columbia County?

United Way of Columbia County, Oregon does fund member agencies located outside of Columbia County.

The primary reason for this is that, unlike Portland and Multnomah County, or Beaverton and Washington County, our beautiful, semi-rural Columbia County does not have enough residents to support in-county agencies or offices for all of the necessary services.

So some of the agencies span two or more rural and semi-rural counties, providing services across county borders and even across the Columbia River.

So while such agencies may not be within Columbia County, these funds are still spent to provide services to Columbia County residents.

Are my donations tax deductible?

Yes. The United Way of Columbia County is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Your contributions are deductible as charitable donations for federal and state income tax purposes.

Can I donate at work?

Yes, if your employer currently offers you the opportunity to give through a workplace campaign. If not, speak to your employer or call us and we will explain how easy it is to offer this opportunity. Payroll deductions, although the easiest way to give, are not necessary for an employee campaign.

Can I donate air travel miles?

Yes. For example, you can help a child get to the life saving medical treatment he or she needs.  Donate your Delta Sky Miles® to the United Way of America and Delta Sky Wish® Program.  For every 5 miles donated, Delta will donate 1 more.

Can I donate a vehicle?

Ø Yes, you can donate a vehicle that is in working condition or has resale value — including automobiles, pick-up trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, or boats.

Ø And you can receive a tax deduction for the "Fair Market Value" of the vehicle in accordance with IRS regulations.

Ø Money from your donation stays local to help people in Columbia County.

Ø All vehicles must be accompanied by a clear title, available at the time of donation.
