Rainier--
United Way
of Columbia County Board of Directors approved the 2007 allocations at
last week’s board meeting. The total dollars allocated to 22 community
partner programs was $235,508.00. Of the $235,508.00, $54,408.00 was
designated donations. In other words, these contributions are “donor
directed” to a specific agency and are tallied separately,” explained
Kathye Beck, executive director. “There was an additional $7,840.00 donor
directed donations to 20 other programs and agencies which provided a
total of $243,348.00 to help change lives. United Way of Columbia County
has reached 90% of their projected goal. We are still accepting donations
for more information go to
www.unitedwayofcolumbiacounty.com or call 503-556-3614.
It is always a difficult
job to allocate the available funds and much thought and work, by the
United Way Board of Directors, go into making these decisions. The task
was even more difficult this year because we raised less than last year.
Basic Human needs—food, shelter, utility assistance were given the highest
priority. Organizations with national or year round fund raising
capabilities had a lower priority.
As always, the Board of
Directors and staff continue to work diligently to maintain a low overhead
by leveraging in-kind donations, supplemental grants and volunteers to
help support the many needs in our community.
Campaign Co-Chairs, Earl
Fisher and Rita Bernhard stated: "We appreciate the support of the
volunteers, businesses and donors who helped United Way of Columbia County
in their efforts to change lives in our community.” We will be holding
our annual Volunteer Thank You Celebration on April 13 at the St. Helens
Senior Center.
