Campaign Kickoff 2007-2008
United Way of Columbia
County held its 2007/2008 campaign kick off event on August 30, 2007 at the
Columbia View Park in St. Helens in conjunction with the Michael Allen
Harrison concert.
There was
information from representatives of funded organizations, free promotional
items for young and old, cookies, apples, and water.
Thank you to everyone
who helped make this a great 2nd Annual Kick Off at the River event.
State Senator Betsy
Johnson as MC announced the beginning of the campaign and introduced Dawn
Mendenhall, United Way of Columbia County President.
Dawn thanked everyone
for their support and encouraged them to participate again this year and
announced the goal of $382,008. The last four digits are a play on the year
in which we will be collecting pledges and donations.
Checks were presented
by:

Walsh, Operations Manage from Georgia Pacific for $30,000,
►Pete
Wilhelm, Bleach Plant Team Leader from Boise Cascade for $5,000,
►Bob
Decker, Plant Manager of Cascades Tissue for $4,500, and
►Betsy
Johnson presented a check from Trans Western Aviation for $1,000.
This gets our campaign
off to a great start with over 10% of our goal of $382,008.

Upcoming events:
Look for United Way
representatives and information at The Sauerkraut Festival in Scappoose. We
will be there with our famous Chocolate Sauerkraut Cupcakes baked by
volunteers from the Senior Centers in Clatskanie, St. Helens and Scappoose.
Then again during the
Dine Out for United Way event that will be county wide October 13 through
October 21. More information to follow.
Then the St. Helens
Children's Fair October 27, 2007 at the St. Helens High School.
